About Us
History of LA County Fair
Fairplex is a nonprofit enterprise that serves as a place, a convener and a creator of memories to strengthen the community and economy through arts and entertainment, agriculture, education and commerce. It is the home of the LA County Fair and more than 200 year-round events. The LA County Fair began in 1922 on 43 acres of a beet and barley field. Now 500 acres strong, the Fair is one of the top destinations in Southern California during its run. In 2022, it moved its dates from September to May. The Fair sees more than 750,000 guests annually.
Thummer
For 75 years Thummer the Pig has served as the Fair’s mascot. His name was chosen via a public contest. One entry offered the name Thummer, as his hoof looked like he was thumbing for a ride – and the name stuck. His home is across from the Big Red Barn, where he greets fairguests daily during the Fair.

LA County Fair parades are back!
Sundays, May 4, 11, 18 & 25 @ 12 PM (noon)
Join us at the 2025 LA County Fair Art Unleashed Parades every Sunday during Fair
Space is limited so get your application in early! There will be no floats available to ride, so please plan accordingly. Application will remain open until space is filled.
Friday & Saturday, May 16 & 17, 2025
Applications are open for the 2025 LA County Fair Performing Arts Showcase. We’re excited to highlight the best middle and high school musicians in the region. Groups will perform 30-minute sets on the Expo Hall 4 Community Stage over 2 days to Fair guests and K-6th grade Field Trip participants.
Open to bands, orchestras and choirs. Applications will be reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges from the region. Space is limited to 16 groups over 2 days. Applications close on Friday, December 13, 2024; notification of selection will occur by Friday, January 10, 2025.
